Os museus e seus fetiches

Abstract

The paper examines the discourses presented by Mirian Sepúlveda dos Santos in her book A escrita do passado em museus históricos (2006). It seeks to understand how the transition from a memory-museum to a narrative-museum breaks up a series of beliefs concerning the objects, their function and symbolism, in order to found other beliefs, formed under different conceptions of history, time, and memory. In this way, some central questions posed by Bruno Latour in his book Reflexão sobre o culto moderno dos deuses fe(i)tiches (2002), allow us to analyze the logics behind different discourses on museums.
