Abstract

If facts call for meaning, and if the work of interpretation is, besides being endless, inherent to all subjects, then it is well-timed to discuss some concepts concerning the museum, considering that it is understood as a privileged discursive space for interpreting some given reality and to discipline meanings about that reality. Specifically, the museum plays a very important role as part of the ideological apparatus of society, notably as a member of a political net which is inseparable from the current civilization process. Based on a theoretical-methodologic apparatus which combines some elements from the history of sciences and from discourse analysis, there will be an effort to insert the discussion about the museum’s onto-historical character into the circuit of a wider discussion on universalism and on the hegemony of westernized patterns.
