Memory and heritage emotion: objects and voices in a rural museum
Abstract
In this paper we analyze the relationships that are established between a rural community within the city of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, and its museum. We started from the idea of patrimonial emotion and sites if memory to analyze the narratives of some members of that community, that accompany the objects of the museum. In a context strongly marked by populations descended from European immigrants who settled the region in the late nineteenth century, the Museum Grupelli is treated as a stage for representation of memories and meanings, through everyday objects and work, formatting a local speech of search for the recognition of multiple memories and meanings. Data were collected through field observations and interviews with members of the community during the years 2010-2011, during which the museology course team at the Federal University of Pelotas was acting more systematically to organize the collection and expography of Grupelli Museum.Downloads
