The building of the former wool factory Laneira Brasileira S.A. belongs to the Pelotas Federal University and was purchased in 2010, remaining unoccupied since then. In 2013 a recycling project was started aiming to transform part of the factory industrial complex into an interdisciplinary memory center, which comprises three museums, a memorial, a retrospective library, a teaching area and an event area. Based on the Nizhny Tagil’s Letter, the place is defined as industrial heritage, with its historical and social value recognized. Also, according to Nora (1993) it is identified as a place of memory. The paper presents partial results of an ongoing study which verifies the location of elements in the building, over which the memory of former workers and the community around it are expressed, using them as support to the memories of this place. The interviews, part of which was carried out at the building, indicate the remaining objects that give support to the memory of this factory.Downloads
