The Clube da Esquina Museum and the city’s places: brief considerations over museological actions on urban space

Abstract

Heritage policies interfere and remodel urban dynamics, constructing new meanings and uses for public spaces. Some heritage-making processes are based on assumptions that consider the city from its architectural, statistics and documentary qualities, and fail to think of it in context and in process, considered in its historicity. But it is through the seizure of dynamics in time of symbolic constructions from city dwellers that preservation actions can approach individuals and social groups who live and consume the cities. The article is part of research carried out under the project Museu Clube da Esquina: do sonho à cidade and addresses three places of Belo Horizonte associated with this cultural formation (see GARCIA, 2000). Proposes to investigate how these spaces are affected by museological actions taken by the Museu Clube da Esquina (MCE) and evaluate them by the public perceptions raised through research and fieldwork carried out in a dialogue between museology, history and ethnography.
