Abstract

The article focuses on a Historic focus on the Prison System, Heritage and Culture. In this sense, the objective is to weave reflections on the transformation process of Recife Detention House in House of Culture, and the introduction to the history of the prison system. The history of the prison system is equipped with situations that point to the contempt, the discontinuity and the disregard in relation to public policy in the context of prisons. Under the methodological perspective it is theoretical research in books and documents consistent with the theme. The bibliographic view of Prisons were important contributions from Salla, Maia, Sá Neto Costa, Bretas, Foucault, Aguirre and Perrot; about the intersection of Heritage and Culture has resorted to the Historical and Artistic Heritage Foundation of Pernambuco House of Culture and Silva.
