Abstract

The preservation of memory usually comprises the establishment of guidelines that allow material protection and informational dissemination of cultural heritage objects. Regarding the Museu da Imagem e do Som (Museum of Image and Sound) of Belo Horizonte, the process of managing the collection of more than 1600 movie was based on the conservation and restoration of the cultural heritage on paper and a posteriori its digitization in order to allow widespread access to information contained there. The work was executed in a system of interdependent steps: the conservation-restoration procedures and the digitization process. All steps were executed through documentation of the realized activities, by means of filling out forms about the preservation treatments and scanning. Data were collected, by all workers, into a digital database. Concomitantly to the safeguard of an important collection for local population, the work also results in its management and effective spread through digital devices. In conclusion, it can be noted that in the mentioned context, the preservation and dissemination activities must be performed in an integrated way, since they are based on dynamic relations between memory, heritage and access.
