How to be modern and to restore the ancient: Architecture revealed by the exhibition course in the chapel of 'Governadores' Palace

The challenge established for the elaboration and installation of an Architecture exhibition involves the concept adopted, material research, interinstitutional relations, exhibition logistics and training of mediators, among other tasks. Thus, it is necessary an illustrative and didactic character about the steps, from the negotiation for the space’s uses of the chapel of the Palácio dos Governadores, through fundraising, definition of team’s work and compatibility between the initial aspirations and real possibilities of implantation. In case of an Architectural Exposition, where the place itself will serve as an object of study, it is considered as a factor of relevance the prominence of the space in the conception and expografic’s practice, composing for an effective understanding of its content. So the exhibition was called "How to be modern and to restore the ancient: understanding The Landi Palace today", that happened in September and October of 2017, in the chapel of the Palace, in Belém, which is located in the Museum of the State of Pará. The exhibition was the result of an Extension Project contemplated by the PROEX Prize for Art and Culture 2016, and it was developed by the Laboratory of Memory and Cultural Heritage (LAMEMO), Architecture and Urbanism College of the Federal University of Pará (FAU/UFPA), aiming the understanding the preservation about material heritage as essentially historical and based on the local cultural context. Through the presentation of the Collection (belonging to the architect Roberto de La Rocque Soares and donated to LAMEMO / FAU), referring to emblematic intervention performed in Lauro Sodré Palace, also known as Landi Palace, proposes the discussion of guiding preservation´s paradigms of the architectural heritage in Pará, in the 70's of the 20th century, organizing an exhibition to be held in the Palace, current Museum of the State of Pará (MEP), workshops with the community and the elaboration of a catalog, to be published in virtual environment.Downloads
