Abstract

This paper will address the concepts of memory and identity, given their importance for culture and the continuation of traditional practices. In our case, we will present the traditional practices of the city of Laguna, located in the state of Santa Catarina. The city of Laguna is the second more oldest of the state and currently has as main economic activities, fishing and tourism. Laguna has an important relationship as the waters that surround it, mainly with the Santo Antônio dos Anjos Lagoon, member of the Lagunar Complex of the south of the state. It was through the Lagoon that the city reached its greatest development at the end of the century XIX, due to its port importance to the south of the country. Vessels were the main actors in this scenario and the interaction between the peoples who lived here and the azorean immigrants gave life to the typologies of characteristic vessels of the region, now part of the traditional Naval Heritage. Many this vessels are already extinct or in the disappearance process, but currently has a work of recovering the memory of this culture, because a boat reveals the stories of a people, of a time and must be preserved as cultural good, bearing in mind that it includes, in addition to the Material Heritage, the Intangible and Cultural heritage, insofar as it relates to the knowledge of the traditional naval master carpenters.
