Abstract

The present article presents a reflection about the preservation and presentation, on exhibition form, of the remaining history and memories related to Hospital Colônia Itapuã, considering the objects exhibited at the Memorial HCI as representatives of these memories. The Hospital was inaugurated in 1940 to receive persons diagnosed with leprosy. However, with the discover of the cure, in 1972, it began to receive patients from Hospital Psiquiátrico São Pedro. In 2014 is inaugurated the Memorial, to present the institution and patients’s history, using testimony objects, texts, theatrical items and mediation. The present text aims to comprehend how the material culture, consubstantiated on the relationship between man and object, is present as guide element inside the process of narrative construction, formulated by the expographycal choices of this space of memory.
