Abstract

The Prophets of Aleijadinho form a set of sculptures that are recognized as a masterpiece of Brazilian Baroque. The discussion about the preservation of the statues is not recent. The processes of degradation and threats, such as exposure to the weather, ore dust and, mainly, vandalism are recurrent points in studies and debates. The problems with preservation rekindle and increase the debate between those who see the removal of statues for a museum as the best option for their safeguard and those who do not accept this idea.
