Sport: Laboratório de História do Esporte e do Lazer - sporting heritage projects

Abstract

In 2006, it was created the Sport: Laboratório de História do Esporte e do Lazer, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Comparative History/UFRJ, heir to other initiatives: the Centro de Memória da Escola de Educação Física e Desportos/UFRJ (still in existence, under other coordination) and the Espaço Virtual de História do Esporte. It is intended to be a center of excellence dedicated to historical studies of institutionalized body practices (sports, physical education, dance, gymnastics, capoeira, among others). One of its objectives is to contribute to the preservation of the sport's memory (documents, photographs, pieces of art, films, lyrics, literary works, testimonies and any type of evidence that may be used in the development of investigations), making use of electronic/internet resources for disseminating the collected material. Sports Social Memory, by the way, is one of its lines of research. Despite this concern, only recently has a project been structured that focuses specifically on the topic of sporting heritage. Since then, in addition to the continuity of this initiative, another research project and two dissemination projects are underway. In addition, some books were published. This experience report aims to present such actions in order to collaborate with the debate on sporting heritage, in the same measure that it intends to stimulate other researchers to integrate future proposals related to the subject.
