Abstract

This paper aims to present the paths of Museology in the graduate studies in Brazil, with the aim of consolidating itself in the scientific field, based on an exploratory and descriptive investigation, which had the following approaches as methodological support: research and bibliographical and documentary review; and content analysis of the researched material. To this end, we present how the two forms of scientific capital can be analytical references for the Graduate Studies process in Brazil, especially in our case study: Graduate Studies in Museology and Heritage, in Rio de Janeiro; and we also tried to analyze the phenomenon of interdisciplinarity that permeates this entire process. The final considerations reinforce that, despite not having autonomy compared to other areas, Museology fought and played the rules of the scientific field when its actors claimed an object of study for themselves, and it happened in a specific and important space: this happened exactly in the sphere from the scientific and university fields, when Museology courses were established; and made countless efforts to consolidate itself as a scientific discipline through the production and dissemination of specific knowledge, and to occupy a place in the most prestigious space of academic knowledge: the graduate sphere.
