Abstract

This article is an invitation to think of the construction of a character from its place of residence when it has been turned into a museum after his death. Bibliographical data, as well as the historical context and the object elected to pay tribute to a Brazilian politician are analyzed in light of what could in some way have contributed to further the idea of nation that was intended to be disseminated throughout society at the time. In this sense, private life gains relevance once a museum is instaled – public space dedicated to the memory – in a residence – space of family intimacy.
