This essay proposes some updated reflections about the understandings of “spectacle”, “spectacularization” and “Museum-Spectacle”, when considering social, political and cultural specificities of the first decades of this century. Seeking to answer the question proposed in the title, it starts with an analytical exercise about similarities and differences between a Samba School and two museums, in a real event that has taken place between 2019 and 2021. Concerning this case, it reflects about symbolic reparation initiatives in museums, and their approximation with spectacle and spectacularization. It presents historical antecedents about the common understanding of Museum-Spectacle and the subtle balance existent between critical/reflective spectacle and superficial spectacularization. It reminds that spectacle is a common ancestor of all museums, and comments on the need for critical understanding of the theme. By reiterating the similarities between museum and theatrical phenomena, it reflects about the possibilities of museums as loci of liberating and emancipating spectacle.
