An architectural intervention to rescue the historic garden of the Museu Educativo Gama d’Eça e Victor Bersani – Heritage of Santa Maria, RS

Abstract

Faced with the growing development of policies and actions for heritage preservation of the assets of the society during the last years, is to be mentioned that there is a care with how to intervene in assets in order to save them and, at the same time, adapt them to the most current uses with no risk to the right of heirs to enjoy representative goods of their cities and their history . The notion of cultural heritage is not limited to goods built by man, but includes also the landscape and other examples of human interaction with nature. In the municipality of Santa Maria-RS, the historical garden of the Educational Museum Gama d ' Eça and Victor Bersani - of eclectic trend, dated approximately from late 1940 and early 1950 – is obsolete and there is no insertion of activities and public visitation. The historical garden has only little care and shows deterioration. The methodology applied in the work consisted of a case study. Data surveys were conducted like as metric and photographic and surveys of existing conditions. Pathological manifestations found at the site were represented on maps of damage. This tool is used as a prerequisite for the development of projects of building interventions and aims to locate, quantify and specify the injuries found in a historic property. The results, after tabulated and interpreted, culminated in the preparation of an intervention project for the site. Through this, the garden will be maintained and adapted to a more current use, guaranteeing its preservation of assets and redeeming their local culture.
