Museological theorie at the exhibition: the way of Museums
Abstract
The exhibition The Way of Museums, possibly held in 1973 at the Moravian Museum, Brno, Czech Republic, presented the thoughts on Museology developed by members of the Masariky University and the Department of Museology of the Museum itself. Its content approached Metamuseology, especially considering Museology and museums, expressed in and by the most characteristic way of information and communication of the Museum institution: the exhibition. The thesis-idea, as a statement, guided the preparation of an exhibition that presented objects which, at that time, were non-classical – including the theme, of a conceptual nature - establishing its own, meta-real, reality. Some years after it had been realized, one of the participants in the organization of the exhibition published an article in an UNESCO / UN’s magazine, providing information about it, in a network not confined to the countries of the then called "Iron Curtain". The main objectives of the present article are to forward the contents of that theoretical view to a network of experts and to revive and discuss the contribution of the “Czech school” of Museology. As a result, in specific terms, it also aims at discussing the exhibition, particularly its epistemological meaning, considering the use, on the exhibition-thesis, of certain concepts – such as reality, object and Museology, thus recollecting the historical dimension of the development of Metamuseology. The course of production of information in Czech Metamuseology, as in the case of Brno, is therefore highlighted – from the Academy to the museum exhibition as event, then disseminated in a journal edited in the UN languages, English and French, and presented in Portuguese in this paper.Downloads
