“BAHIA AMEAÇADA”: José Valladares’s vision of Architectural Heritage (1958 – 1959)

Abstract

It analyzes a series of illustrated notes entitled Bahia Ameaçada written by the intellectual from Bahia Jose Antonio do Prado Valladares (J.V) and published in the newspaper A Tarde from the end of 1958 to the beginning of 1959, in which presents his vision of the architectural cultural heritage in the city of Salvador. The purpose of the search was to detect, through the historical and museological perspective, the similarities between his preservationist speech and the one used by the national heritage organ from that time, Departamento do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (DPHAN).
