Abstract

The archaeological site of São Francisco, located in the municipality of São Sebastião, in the north coast of the state of São Paulo, is a estate of significant importance for Brazilian history, known by several instances, but still relatively unknown by the public. In 2010, an itinerant exhibition - which went through six cultural centers in four Brazilians states - was developed based on the site's archaeological collection, as a strategy for research dissemination, for public knowledge and for creating an environment conducive to its protection and promotion with society and public agencies. This work reports the strategies adopted in developing the Project, and foster the reflection on the use of diffusion as an instrument for the protection of cultural heritage.
