Abstract

Study of the preservation professionals’ memories, restorers and bookbinders who worked in the National Library between the 1880s and 1980s. The research is on how actions and changes in the perspective of preservation of the collection were influenced by the trajectory of international thought and how these memories are capable of elucidating the projection of the institution within the framework of the preservationist culture. These research allowed us to conclude that these professionals arose from an institutional need, based on practices guided by international theories and thoughts, and their trajectory contributed to design the institution as the main preservationist culture disseminator within the scope of bibliographic collections in Brazil.
