IDENTIFICATION OF CERAMICS IN FAIENCE PORTUGUESE IN HOUSES THE HISTORICAL CENTER OF THE CITY OF PELOTAS, RS
Abstract
This paper presents information about history, origin and manufacture parts in Portuguese faience located in Historic Centre of Pelotas, RS, Brazil. The research was based on the identification and analysis of parts of the parapet’s Cacequi Baron, Baron of St. Louis and Baron Butuí houses. The buildings in the eclectic style, were built in the late eleventh century, period of economic boom and the city of Pelotas society. In house of Baron Cacequi, eight sculptures, representing the continents America, Africa, Asia and Europe, the seasons winter, spring, summer and fall, only five were found and the three vessels, all were located. In the house from the Baron of St. Louis, six sculptures, representing the arts, industry, commerce, agriculture and gratitude (two), were found. In house of Baron Butuí the thirteen sculptures and four vessels were found. The analysis of these sculptures have been shown that they was imported from Portugal. The comprovation of this was in the presence of brands in low relief and in the inscriptions of "Ceramics Factory and Foundry of Devesas" located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, parts identification in a catalog of factory, 1910, which included more than a thousand pieces. The catalog was at the time, the form used by the ceramic factories for disclosure and marketing of its products. For the analysis of the conservation status of the sculptures was produced catalog cards. In early 2010, in the first survey the pieces were in disrepair, with many pathologies. Currently, the sculptures of the house from the Baron Cacequi are being restored and the sculptures of the house from the Baron of St. Louis were restored in late 2010.Downloads
