Abstract

This study is aimed at presenting the uses, possibilities and approaches between the field of History of Education and the areas of Archival Science and Museology applied to the specificity of school collections. Two surveys, which have been carried out in post-graduate level, in the area of History of Education, are used as background. From the school collections used as sources for historical research, the study theorizes on the use of these archival and museum collections, and therefore theoretically addresses concepts related to such areas – Archival Science and Museology. The study is based on the following authors: Nora (1993), Bellotto (2006), Lopes and Galvão (2001), Mogarro (2005), and Paes (2004). Regarding the text organization, first introductory aspects are discussed, then school collections, archives and museums are theorized about, and finally specifically the collections used in the two surveys are approached.
