Abstract

The purpose of this communication is to discuss the museological processes that have been implemented in Lagoa de São Vitor, countryside of São Raimundo Nonato, in the countryside of Piaui. For the purpose of contextualization, São Vitor`s origin is from the historically homonymous farm - a famous slave unit. This memory is expressed in the making of the Território Quilombola de Lagoa. In addition to this legacy from the colonial period, exists in the area some archaeological and paleonthological sites, which are well known. Those are daily resignified, from beyond the scientific discourse. In relation to the recent past, the region is characterized by intense popular organization, demarcated by the association and the narratives related to negotiations and struggles for a better living condition. Front this picture, teachers and students of the Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco (UNIVASF) started an extension work in 2013, when it was reflected with the community about the specificly heritage buildings involving traditional knowledge, history and the environment, pivotally with initiatives aimed at community based tourism and sustainability. In this movement, the population expressed a desire to create a museum that is dedicated to communicating the importance of São Vítor and at the same time, to serve as a vector for local development. For all purposes, this scenario was the ideal lócus for collaborative experimentation in Social Museology, Community Archaeology and Sustainable Development, connected with a Transforming Education, wich use the experiences local as a point of departure and arrival for reflection on citizenship and socio-political emancipation. The climax of the moviment has been the intensification of demonstrations for consolidation of Museu Integral da Comunidade de São Vítor, accompanied by perception that the museum is a living and transformer phenomenon.
