The aim of this article is to contribute to the discussion about the heritage preservation policy in the Federal District. For this, we chose two cases considered emblematic: the Taguatinga Water Tank and the Ceilandia Water Tank. Emblematic not only for the outcome of each one, but because we consider that each case show us a moment of the relation between State, society and heritage. In November of 2013 the Ceilândia water tank was recognized as historical heritage of the DF. 29 years earlier, the Taguatinga water tank had been demolished. From this parallel we search through documents and bibliography to understand the meaning of both water tank for the population and its connection with the history mainly to the first residents of Ceilândia and Taguatinga. For this, the methodology used was the analysis of administrative and legal processes in light of bibliographical and documentary sources. Finally, we suggest possible dialogues between the two spheres of political action - the Federal and the local one.Downloads
